Called to Serve

Apparently nothing happened in the past year worth writing about. Actually that's false. I've just put blogging on the back burner for quite some time now. But it's time to dust off this old thing for a little update. Also, I've gotten out of the habit of writing in all aspects, and I don't really want to lose that. (Side note: 2011's attempt at NaNoWriMo didn't work out so well...). The last time I wrote, I was leaving for Colorado to try my luck there. I didn't end up staying there, but I'm sure glad I went. I met great people, had some good adventures, and I completely my project for the year! (See a couple posts previous). Here is the completed product of my film a clip every day project. Unlike the original, I decided to go for two seconds instead of one. I didn't think about how this would double the time of the video... But I was putting together the video throughout the year so I wouldn't have to do it all at the end, and by that point, I didn't want to start over and make it all one second. I do plan to make a one second version, but that'll have to wait. So here's a glance at my year that I neglected to talk about but was totally awesome.






So I saw a lot of movies, ate lots of food, and spent a lot of time with a certain ginger cat. Also, I went to Disneyland, saw waterfalls, went to Time Out For Woman, etc.

Last year also involved an important decision, one that included my leaving Colorado. I decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I've been called to serve in the Romania/Moldova mission. I'll be leaving shortly, and I'll be gone for a year and a half. So, for now, this is farewell. See you again in a year and a half. I hope it's a good one :) Adieu!

Disappearing Act Part Twain

I seem to have a hard time admitting to people when I'm moving. I guess part of me would prefer just to silently and somewhat stealthily sneak out of people's lives. Maybe I hate goodbyes or explanations or both. The point is, I probably should start telling people these things farther in advance. Oh and I'm moving.

I was going to stay here until June, but after some thought and brief discussion, it was concluded that it wasn't really necessary to stay that long. So I'll be disappearing two weeks from Saturday and reappearing a state over. Part of me is sad to leave. I've really enjoyed having my sister as a roomie, and there's some other pretty awesome people here too. I came to Utah thinking it wouldn't be a permanent thing. Perhaps I jinxed it--and by jinxed I mean made it come true... I don't think I can think like that anymore. When I believe it's temporary, that I don't want to stay in a place too long, it's harder to make the effort that I should be to progress in life because I'm afraid of getting stuck. It's good to know that I can always return home if I need to, but I honestly need to try to be out on my own. And if I have to go back home, that's okay. Times are tough.

Growing up is a tad bit scary sometimes.

But I'm not going to quite be all on my own just yet. See this crazy person?

The crazy person to the left that is. I'll be moving in with her and her family while I do some job searching. 

It was a hard decision and I was a little overwhelmed at the prospect at first, but I'm really looking forward to spending some time in Colorado. Once again, I don't know what the future holds. But that's okay. Life is a grand adventure with ups and downs and plenty of uncertainty. Even so, the good things make it all worth it.

So take a deep breath and plunge into the adventure that lies ahead!

Another Project for the Year

I just came across this video courtesy of friends on Facebook, and I've been inspired! I absolutely love this idea. I only wish I'd seen it sooner so I could have started from day one. The video below is comprised of 1 second clips from each day of 2011. I never realized how much could be expressed in such a tiny clip! I love this so much that my friend and I have decided to do it us of today for 2012. We have some stuff we can use for January. Now, with Flip camcorder constantly in tow, we are going to document our years and compare at the end. I am so excited for this. You have no idea. Better make sure I film something for today! Watch the video below. Prepare to have your mind blown. I only hope I can have some equally awesome clips!

Welcome 2012

I'm always amazed when we reach a new year, and I realize all the things I did in the last year. January 2011 seems like forever ago. I had some ideas of how I wanted the year to go. Some of the plans I had at that point followed through, and others didn't. Such is life, but even though not everything worked out exactly how I had it pictured in my my mind, I still have to say that it wasn't a bad year. In fact, some pretty darn awesome things happened in 2011! And some things were even better than expected.

Some highlights of the year:

I became an aunt!

I got an internship.

I discovered a love for Colorado. Maybe I would feel differently if I were there during the winter with a bunch of snow all around... But as for right now, I have a love for Colorado.

That brings up the Denver Publishing Institute! That's right. I'm certified in publishing. Take that.

I went to ConTour. Definitely not something I thought I'd ever do. Man, that was fun. I'm such a nerd.

Midnight showing of Harry Potter!

Speaking of Harry Potter, I got to see the Harry Potter exhibit at the Seattle Science Center, which was brilliant. That was a good day.

I visited some old friends in Idaho. I can't believe that was this year.

I saw a total of three plays: Wicked, Les Mis, and Cinderella. Love!

I once again did not complete NaNoWriMo on time. Ha. Still a good experience though, and I have another half novel under my belt. HUZZAH!

I discovered my pioneer ancestry.

I moved.

I could go on, but I think that's a pretty good list for starters.

I don't know what this year will hold, and I would be lying if I said that the future holds no anxiety for me, but one of my resolutions is to get a better handle on stress. So here's taking a deep breath and telling 2012 to bring it on. Judging by the way life has gone so far, I'd say that once again there will hardships and there will be blessings and in the end I'll still be saying it was good and worth it. I will learn as I try to progress and reach goals and there will be times where things won't go according to plan. That's not the worst thing in the world. Sometimes, things work out better than what you expected or planned. So welcome 2012. I have no idea what this year will bring, but I think it's going to be good. Cheers.

Christmas Time is Here and the New Year is Just Around the Corner

First and foremost I must announce for those of you who have not heard yet that I am officially an aunt! My niece is adorable. Although I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her in person, I met her via skype on the day she was born. Best moment of December!

I can't believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Cannot believe it! That also means that it's travel day for me. Crazy? Maybe. Worth it? Definitely. I'm curious to see whether the airport will be packed or not too bad. A lot of people have already done their traveling, but I'm sure there's a lot of people who saved it for the last minute just like my sister and I. It just sort of worked out that way what with job schedules and everything. I'm okay with it because I'm going home :)

In other news, if you've never seen the Christmas lights/displays on Temple Square, you should do it sometime. Megan and I got to go as a church activity. I'd been there once before a few years back. It's beautiful, and packed, and just all out awesome. We actually went inside the assembly hall and tabernacle this year. I don't know about you, but I think pipe organs are really cool looking. Just saying.

As the year is quickly coming to a close, I've started to think about what resolutions I want to make for next year. This year didn't entirely go according to plan, but such is life. I can't say it's been a horrible year because it hasn't. I've had some good experiences and adventures, and I even accomplished a thing or two. I can't even remember all of my resolutions from last year. I think that's why it's good to write your goals down. If you don't, they're too easily forgotten or set aside. I realized as I was thinking of possible resolutions that it's important not to overwhelm ourselves. Sure we should be setting goals, but we shouldn't pile ourselves up with tons of goals all at once. Focus on a a few at a time or maybe just one at a time. Some goals are a lot harder to reach than others. Just something to keep in mind as you think about your own resolutions for 2012.
