Adieu, Adieu, To You And You and You

Marysville Pilchuck High School's production of Disney's High School Musical has come to an end. I loved doing all the chereography. The whole play (despite the cheesiness) was fun. It's taken up somewhere near 3 months of my time. I haven't been able to get it out of my head!! Now that I have free time again I can't focus on my school work. It's really wierd almost like I do better under pressure. Anyhow, now to explain the pictures. I'll go from left to right starting at the top. The first picture is of Matt and Ally who played Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez. Next is a picture of Blakely (Sharpay Evans) who at one point in the show gets a cake shoved in her face hence the frosting. Below her is a picture of Joe who was her costar so to speak. He played Ryan Evans. I just like this picture. I think it pretty much sums up his character as well as his personality. The next shot is of our director, Mr. Klem. He puts a lot of hard work into the shows. He's a nice guy and understanding if you talk to him before hand. If you don't, he can be really scary when he's mad, but hey most people are. Beside him is a picture of Andrew and Kelsey. They played Chad Danforth and Taylor McKessi. Okay I spelled that last name wrong. Oh well. Shane is the boy covered in frosting. He played Zeke Baylor and on closing night he ended up with cake in his face too. It was hilarious. He started eating some of the cake during a scene but his hair is so long it kind of got in the way. It's kind of gross to watch someone pull a long, curly, frosting covered lock of hair from their mouth. Hmm tasty. And last but not least is a shot of Blakely and Joe again because they're cool like that. Blakely will be going to Disneyland this summer for an internship. She gets to be Belle. Congrats to her!!
We did eight performances of the play (4 more than usual) and gained a lot of money and hopefully fans. We can use all the fans/drama kids we can get our hands on. The drama department has great chances of suffering and coming close to disappearing all together. The first time we worried about losing drama was after my freshmen year. The high school was being dumb as usual (funny thing is I can't remember what they were doing exactly but I'm pretty sure they were doing something) and basically our drama teacher left. The school had a hard time finding a new teacher and there was lots of talk about losing drama as well as the other arts related departments. The arts are always the first it seems. I don't think people appreciate them as much as they should. Anyway, I won't get into that. Mr. Klem took the job though and got us back on our feet with "You Can't Take It With You" and "Beauty and the Beast." Now our school has come up with another brilliant idea called small learning communities. Under normal circumstances I suppose I can see how learning communities can be beneficial. But the school district is basically trying to force kids starting in 9th grade to decide what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Then they have to take classes that pertain that field of study. In most of the communities, that includes electives to. For example, in your bio med community, possible electives include forensic science or AP biology. Sounds like a good class to take a load off your shoulders.... Anyhow, part of the reason Klem chose to do High School Musical was to get people interested in drama so we still have the program in a few years. So that's that.
