I'm Just Hanging Out, Building Character

I've neglected my dear ole blog the last couple weeks. I've been trying to work on some projects, and laziness probably has something to do with :)

I've been working on getting Spiral Staircase Books up and running (check out the tab up top!). And I've been watching a lot of The Mentalist and Heroes (yep, I did just use T.V. as an excuse).

So let me tell you a little bit of what's been going on.

Laura and Stuart came to visit!

I always enjoy having them around. Laura mentioned that it felt like they'd never left. Because of that, it was a little weird when their trip ended after just a week. I'm excited to see them again in December. We played games, ate delicious foods, and enjoyed each others company. The end.

As you know, I've been filling out a bunch of job applications. Last week, I had two interviews and I was pretty nervous/excited. I was like, "I'm finally catching a break!" But things didn't quite work out. It's all good though. Every interview is good experience. And one of them told me there were 125 applicants but only 7 were chosen for the interview process. So I made first cut but not second. Therefore, I'm atleast half awesome :) Way to boost my own ego.

So now there's more job applications in store for me. Something will work out eventually.

Last Friday, I went to a place called Sky High fo a church activity. Sky High is pretty much a huge room filled with trampolines. Even the walls have trampolines! It was a lot of fun! And there were only two casualties.

One of them being my sister, Megan.

Now I affectionately refer to her as Crutchy as she sprained her ankle. She's doing well though. She should be up and walking in no time.

On Sunday, Mom, Megan, and I traveled south a little ways to go to a missionary farewell of a guy who's family used to live up here. It was fun to see him and his family again and take part in the excitement. He'll be leaving for Utah soon and then off he'll go to Flordia to serve the Lord for two years. Pretty darn awesome if you ask me!

That's pretty much all for now.

Happy adventuring!

Cross Your Fingers!

Okay. I'm trying something, and I realize that it could trip on it's own shoelaces and land face first in a pile of mud (or worse), but I figured, I had to try and see what happens. Scrapes and bruises are easy mended anyhow.

I've started an online used bookstore and blog. Right now my stock is little, but it's already started to grow! I'm hoping it will work out and people will actually take an interest in it. So here's where you come in. Take a look at what I've got (http://spiralstaircasebooks.blogspot.com/). Maybe even follow it on Twitter. Maybe I should make a Facebook page...

Anyway, take a look, give me suggestions, spread the word, and help me get this thing up and running. You can even be a part of the blogs greatness! Send in book reviews. Tell me about what you read this summer. What you loved. What you hated. Whatever you want!

I'll have contests up soon with some sort of awesome prize. I'm not sure what though. I want to reach out to different areas of creativity. So I'll have writing contests. That much I know. But I want to reach out to other mediums too (video, photography, art, etc.). I was just thinking right now that it would be fun to have a photoshoot contest where you dress up as some of your favorite characters. Would anyone be interested in that?

Please take a look and spread the word! I'll be your best friend forever :)

Until next time!

Peach Cobbler

We have this big box of sweet, delicious peaches. So the other day I did something that I've never done before: I made peach cobbler! I was very proud of myself and it turned out so good! I'll share the recipe with you so you too can enjoy the greatness of this peach cobbler.
Megan was sitting in the other room applying for jobs whilse I was peeling and cutting peaches to my heart's content. I told her she was actually preparing to go out in the world and provide for herself while I was learning how to be a good house wife with my new found knowledge of peach cobbler making. She loving pointed out that I need a man before I can be a good house wife.
Rude. But true.
Still, I now have mad peach cobbler skills. You know you liked it, Megan. I saw you eat like half of it. Ok maybe that was Mom.
Here's the recipe!

Ingredients

· ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

· 1 cup all-purpose flour

· 2 cups sugar

· 3 tsps baking powder

· Pinch salt

· 1 cup milk

· 4 cups peeled, pitted and thinly sliced fresh peaches (5-6 medium peaches)

· 1 tbs fresh lemon juice

· Several dashes ground cinnamon or ground nutmeg (optional)

o I used ½ tsp of cinnamon and ¼ tsp of nutmeg

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

2. Pour the melted butter into a 9 by 13 pan

3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and the salt and mix well. Stir in the milk, mixing until just combined. Pour this batter over the butter but DO NOT stir them together.

4. In a small saucepan (ok, more like medium saucepan to fit all those scrumptious peaches), combine peaches, lemon juice, and remaining cup of sugar and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Pour the peaches over the batter, but DO NOT stir them together.

5. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired

6. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden-brown. Serve warm or cold.

It will look something like this right before you bake it.
And once it's all done it will look something like this!

It's easy and delicious. Make some for yourself and have fun doing it!

Until next time!

It's Alive!

Good news, folks!

Lappy was not successful in his attempts to off himself. For the first time in what feels like forevever, I am viewing and posting on the internet via lappy instead of the our old computer sitting quite comfortably in our family room. Now that I have Lappy back, that poor computer will probably sit down there unused for another five or so years.

Poor computer.

That's all for now. I've got to apply for more jobs....because...I've been slacking...and working on a whole bunch of side projects, which hopefully you'll get to witness sometime.

Maybe.

Also big news! I'm getting a haircut today. This probably all isn't as exciting for you as it is for me. Ha ha!

More exciting adventures to follow.

Have an awesome Thursday!
