25 things you might not know about me

Well I'm stealing this from Kim. But I've actually been thinking about this sort of thing. By "this sort of thing" I mean like confessing all my deepest darkest secrets to all y'all. Haha okay so not exactly. So here you go. 25 insights into Danielle Adams :)

1. So some of you already know this, but my biggest irrational fear is needles. Sometimes (or all the times) I begin to cry when I have to get a shot. When I got my wisdom teeth removed and they were going to put the IV in, I started to cry and probably took my arm away. I was on drugs and yet still so very afraid.

2. I like some anime related things but I'm not hard core (no Naruto or Pokemon for me).

3. My favorite Jamba juice is Raspberry Dream Machine

4. I like Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, and Kingdom Hearts type video games (haha and more!)

5. I used to play soccer, track, and was on the swim team! I have no idea why I did track...

6. I would love to see the Phantom of the Opera on stage

7. I've never been to Canada, but I have been to Scotland

8. Whenever I hear songs by bands/musicians like the Cars, Chicago, ELO, or even Enya, I think of my dad

9. I like all movie renditions of Pride and Prejudice that I've seen...wait...maybe all but one. I've seen 4 different versions.

10. I think dipping french fries in chocolate frosties are good.

11. Possibly two of my most favorite books are The Hobbit and The Phantom Tollbooth....this is subject to change. Oh and I love the Harry Potter series.

12. I still like to listen to bands like NSYNC every once in awhile (lame huh?) and I'm discovering that I actually like little tastes of country.

13. I used to play the clarinet and a little of flute (I still have them both). I also claim that I can play a wee bit of piano.

14. My first singing solo that I can remember was a piece from Hendel's Messiah.

15. Sometimes I think I pay more attention to the music in movies than anybody else.

16. I love to take pictures.

17. People don't believe me when I say I'm shy, but I can be in certain situations. See previous blog on why I don't dance very much in public.

18. I'm not a big fan of Grease or Dirty Dancing (please don't hurt me...)

19. Sometimes I avoid things convincing myself that I already hate them. I'm coming to discover that I tend to be wrong. Example: I used to avoid Tim Burton movies and anything by Edgar Allen Poe. Turns out I like movies like "Big Fish" and "The Corpse Bride", and stories like "The Cask of Antimillado" aren't so bad. On this note, I'm also discovering that not all things deemed "classic" are so horrible. Although some of them still are I suppose :)

20. My first official job was at Kentucky Fried Chicken. I will never go back...

21. I like to learn random facts about things that will never be useful in my life.

22. I'm not a big fan of Rexburg winters and sometimes I get really tired of school work, but I know I will be extremely sad when it's over.

23. Occasionally I will randomly quote something and hope that someone knows what I am talking about.

24. I know the proper reply to the phrase "live long and prosper"

25. I still remember bits and pieces of both German and American Sign Language. Plus I think it would be awesome to learn Hebrew. Not sure how that would benefit me in any way whatsoever.

So there you go. There are 25 random things about me that you possibly did not know to begin with. I'd be happy to elaborate if you really want. Are you all wondering what the proper reply to the phrase "live long and prosper" is? Just ask Mr. Spock. I'm sure he'd be happy to obilge.

Oh and don't mix it up with Mork's greeting which has a similar hand position but different saying.

Sandwiches, Cancer, and Top it Off with Stitches

Okay so last night was one full of adventure. First of all, Megan, her roommate Melissa, and I went to Gandolfos (pretty much the best sandwich joint on the planet in my humble yet deadly accurate opinion). Sadly, I was pretty much absorbed with watching their television as I stuffed my face. Pretty sad right? But they were showing the old "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"! That obviously makes my obliviousness to whatever else was going on completely okay, right? We really wanted to have some of their chocolate mousse cake too, but they were all out. Who runs out of chocolate mousse cake?! That stuff she fall out of the sky on command!! So we were forced to go to Milhallow instead to get some of their ice cream. Ironically, Milhallow is also a sandwich place. I had no idea...

After that, I came home to more excitement! But first, here's a little background story. So my roommate Lindsey is in the nursing program. They just had the pleasure of learning about certain types of cancer. To receive extra credit in that class, they are given the assignment of teaching a guy about testicular cancer. Being a good student, Lindsey really wanted that extra credit. So here was our plan. We made some of those no bake cookies planning to use them as bribery to make our old FHE brother learn about cancer. So we did make said cookies which are delicious. To bad they didn't set so they are kind of like goop. Who knew that if you didn't actually wait for the cocoa mixture to cool it wouldn't fully solidify? They still taste good and that's all that matters. To make things even worse, we couldn't get a hold of our FHE brother to find out if he was even home or not.

I suppose luck was on Lindsey's side in some degree. One of Mckenzie's friends, Tim, just happened to be hanging out at our apartment. Therefore, he became our new victim. Instead of actually teaching him, Lindsey just gave him a pamphlet to look through and take notes on. He then signed those notes and Lindsey now has her extra credit!! (Funny side story involving said pamphlet. Today Lindsey called me and asked me to look through her trash for a piece of paper she thought she no longer needed. Chelsea started rummaging through the trash as I was on the phone with Lindsey. Although her needed paper was not in the trash, the cancer pamphlet was. I tried to warn Chelsea that that was not what we were looking for. But before a could tell her what exactly she was looking at, she opened the pamphlet and was apparently scarred for life. We started laughing hysterically. Lindsey just found out what we were laughing about a few minutes ago. She should know not to leave those things lying around.)

Things continued to get even more exciting! Unfortunately I do not have pictures of this next event. Here's what happened. My next door neighbor, Chelsea Roberts, busts into our apartment (not an unusual thing for her to do) and says something like "Look what Whitney did to me!!" (Whitney is her roommate FYI). She had a smallish but deep wound/gash right above her eye. It turns out that Whitney had tried to attack her for reasons unknown to me. Chelsea tried to escaped by running out of the apartment. Before Chelsea could get out the door, Whitney slammed the door which somehow managed to collide with Chelsea's face. After some persuasion, Mckenzie and Tim took her to get stitches; she had to get four. She's doing quite well and will most likely not be horribly disfigured for life. Whitney better watch her back if she knows what's good for her.

I don't think tonight will top all of that.

Coolest Thing Ever!!

Ok so maybe you won't find this as exciting as I do but it actually has been kind of helpful. So this is a lovely geneaology trick. I was shown this site before, but I didn't realize how awesome it is until today. In order to use this site you will need AFNs (Ancestral File Number) which can be found at familysearch.org. Ok so you go to http://roots.cs.byu.edu/digroots/selfafninfo.php. You put in the AFN of one of your ancestors (you only need to put in the first one). Then you click the finished button. You then have the option of seeing some famous people in your geneaology. You don't always find stuff but sometimes you get a whole list! Then you can click on the "i" icon next to each person and it will show you directly how you are linked to the person from the original ancestor you typed in. It is then helpful to look them up on family search becasue then you can download ged coms. It will save some time and you will get more information. It has led me to all sorts of links today so I thought I'd share (I also put it here in hopes that I won't forget this site!!!)

The Secret Life of a Dancing Fiend!

Last night I was pretty much forced to attend country dancing here on campus. Ok more like I consented just to make my old roommate, Sara, stop whining :) Now I realize that most people would never believe when I say I can be quite shy. Alas, it be truth. Although I was quite comfortable teasing Sara and doing our own little moves, whenever she tried to push me towards the dance floors, my feet became cement. Don't get me wrong, I think dancing is amazing/fun! But it is one of those things where I feel more comfortable rocking out on my own where no one else will see me...ever! It didn't help that I didn't recognize any of the moves they were doing...I guess my social dance class didn't cover that area. So although I do enjoy dancing, I'm too shy/self conscious to actually do it. Someday I will conquer my fear and reveal the inner dancing fiend within me! But until then, I will remain quirky Danielle, who you probably assume is one of the least shy people you know... I'm just fooling you, that's all.

After avoiding the dance floor and all people of the male gender for a good 45 min, I decided I'd stayed long enough to fulfill the politeness requirement, and I gratefully slid out the door and into the cool night air. It was strange how great it felt to be outside. Usually (although I've really only experience Rexburg winter once) ten o'clock at night is not a pleasent experience in the middle of January. However, it was very nice and refreshing. I couldn't let that go to waste. Megan agreed to walk with me to the temple where we took a few pictures.

It was really foggy. I wasn't sure if we'd be able to get any good pictures, but these turned out pretty good.

Tacos

So one thing that is big in our family is the glorious taco. Last week I made them on my own for the first time!! I know that's not a grand accomplishment, but I'm pretty sure it's part of the initiation process of the Adams family especially since we don't cheat with a package of taco seasoning. I was forced to use a napkin (Dad's name for flour tortillas) since I don't buy corn tortillas up here. It was still wonderful! I felt like I was having a little feast all for myself! And I have been having leftovers which is delectible as was the first. Anyway, it was a momentous occasion for me and I've been meaning to share it!

My Happiness!

Just a little update!

I have officially survived the first week of semester! It's really only half an accomplishment since the first week is really only have a week... But I survived nonetheless. Classes seem good so far. I'm a bit concerned about my history class, but I really have no other choice than to stick with it. We haven't been back very long, and yet we still find time to party! My roommates and I had a little shindig on Saturday. We weren't sure that anyone was going to show up. Thankfully they did and it was a blast. We played a few rounds of catch phrase, signs, and murder in the dark. If you ask me, murder in the dark is very creepy and will probably give me nightmares. Ok maybe it wasn't that bad, but it was pretty creepy especially since you can't see anything and people start to quote the joker. Yeah, I don't know how I survived. Sadly there's not much else to tell. Life goes on as normal. Well, I haven't even started on my homework and FHE is in half an hour. I suppose this means we must part until next time. Adieu!

My Personal Power Animal

Hey guess what I learned today! My personal power animal is the leopard gecko!!

I'm not really sure what that means..... I wish I could touch my nose with my tongue like that little guy. I'm just not that talented.

Farewell 2008

Hello 2009!

Last night, preparations for the new year started off with the latest Mummy movie. Megan and I had never seen it before. On the back of the movie, it says that it is the best out of the series. The movie wasn't too bad but it definitely wasn't the best of the series. There was a little bit of a loss in the connection between audience and character which left the film a little lacking.
The night continued with a grand Dr. Mario 64 competition!!! I'm proud to say that I kicked butt! Haha. At one point, Dad turned to me and said, "How does it feel to be hated by your whole family". Ouch. I know he meant it with love though.
At the stroke of midnight, we ran upstair for the usually festivities of crackers (not the kind you eat) and Martinelli's (sparkling cider ever!). I think these were are best crackers yet! They had all sorts of cool prizes inside! Well, cool as far as those things go. Megan got tired of doing the crackers with me because I kept getting the prizes. I'll let her have the lame ones :)

We broke into the Martinelli's right after. We really like that stuff. Megan was so excited to get some, she tried to open it with her teeth. Haha.

Along with our favorite drink, we had to eat our favorite appetizer! Jalepano poppers!!

It was a good way to welcome the new year.
